In our last blog we said we were looking forward to the BRC Area 19 Summer Dressage Qualifiers on 18th May at St Leonards and wow, did we have a great day!

We were super well prepared for the qualifiers thanks to the brilliant extra training sessions with Jane Lavington and Becky Kennen, generously paid for by the club. Jane and Becky also put together the teams, matching horse and rider to the dressage test/s most suited to them.

Camel Valley had no less than 14 members competing on the day, achieving some pretty impressive results and a massive well done to everyone for taking part - for some combinations this was their very first competition!  It was such a friendly, well-run event in a super venue on a lovely sunny day, everyone’s smiles were positively infectious!

Our club members are hugely supportive of one-another and it was especially lovely to have Becky not just there encouraging us all but actually competing on two different horses on behalf of their owners. As such she was there from beginning to end – a VERY long day for her but she was as always unfailingly supportive.

Our senior Introductory Team of Liz Freeman, Helen McMillan, Donna Rowe and Celena Wolfe kicked off our successful day securing an impressive 2nd place and individually:

  • Andy Coad was 2nd on Buster in the Senior Intro 1
  • Liz was 3rd on Smartie in the Senior Intro 1
  • Donna was 2nd on Essie in the Senior Intro 3

Our Senior Prelim Team of Janet Elston, Tracy Wilson, Becky Kennen and Sally Rowe came 3rd and individually:

  • Helen was 2nd on Ocean in the Senior BRC Prelim 1
  • Celena was 2nd on Obaldy in the Senior BRC Prelim 2
  • Janet was 3rd on Legacy in the Senior BRC Prelim 4
  • Helen Lentern was 1st on Polly in the Senior BD Prelim 1
  • Tracy was 2nd on Prince Senior BD Prelim 1
  • Celena was 4th on Obaldy in the Senior BD Prelim 2
  • Becky was 5th on Jim in the Senior BD Prelim 2
  • Sally was 3rd on Georgie in the Senior BD Prelim 3

Our Mixed Open Team of Jane Lavington, Carina Kane, Sally Rowe and Kathy Baillie had even greater success securing 1st place and individually:

  • Sally was 3rd on Georgie in the Mixed Novice 1
  • Kathy was 1st in the Mixed Novice 2 on Cortez and is determinedly heading to the championships in Lincoln having now qualified!
  • Jane Stevens was 1st on Larry in the Mixed Novice 3, also qualifying for the champs!
  • Carina was 5th on Flight in the Mixed Novice 3
  • Jane was also 1st on Larry in the Mixed Elementary 1

In the Mixed PYO (pick your own) Medium or Advanced Medium 4, right at the end of the day:

  • Jane Lavington was 2nd on Madi and 3rd on Madi in their second class
  • Becky Kennen was 4th on Boston

Jane Fisher, our Area 19 BRC Representative, congratulated Camel Valley on our awesome turnout and we are so super proud of everyone and their fabulous horses representing our club on the day. We look forward to supporting Kathy and Cortez at the nationals – more on that adventure soon, and in the meantime a very well done to those members who represented us at the Area 19 one day event - Andy Coad, Carina Kane, Helen Lentern, Lisanne Mules and Gemma Parsons.
