On Monday, February 8, the Camel Valley Riding Club held a meeting on Zoom. Although the committee have had a few online meetings, this was the first time a CVRC public meeting had been held in this manner: another first for the Coronavirus era. It worked pretty well, except we missed those who were not comfortable with the technology, and obviously there weren’t wine and nibbles, and it’s harder to chat in a Zoom group than it is at the Snail’s Pace Cafe! Ah well, you can’t have everything.

Everyone agreed it was nice to see some familiar faces in this rather lonely time.

Chairman Janet Elston thanked her fellow committee members for their hard work. The fun ride that was able to go ahead in summer 2020 was a successful fundraiser for the CVRC, so thanks to everyone who helped with that.

The committee decided that since much of the training had to be cancelled due to Coronavirus restrictions, that they would limit membership fees to £20 for 2021, a £5 per head discount. This year, the British Riding Clubs will also be discounting entry fees, in recognition of the stop-start year we’ve all had.

We had an update about our new CVRC website, which will hopefully be live very soon. The website is meant to be a welcoming/promotional tool for people looking to join a riding club or are new to our area. It also has a booking/payment functionality, so hopefully that will ease the strain on the treasurer/secretary when it comes to bookings for training and events. Gillian Molesworth asked for a few high-resolution (large file size) photos to put on the website, sent via email if possible.

We all agreed that we had been riding just enough to keep our horses healthy, and were really missing training and events, and seeing each other!

Dates for the diary:

The CVRC AGM will be held on Zoom on March 18 at 7.30.

Ever optimistic, the committee have booked camp around May 15-16 at Chyverton, although it’s unclear whether we’ll be able to stay there or not, that decision will have to be made closer to the time.

The BRC Arena Eventing will be held on May 22-23 at Aston Le Walls

The BRC dressage will be an online competition, details to follow.

There will be no BRC show jumping championship this year.

On August 6-8 will be the BRC Horse Trials- probably more in the format of a one day event, location TBC.

Stay safe everyone!
